When you're looking for a moving company, check with Department of Transportation to make sure the company is licensed with the federal government to provide moving services. Visit protectyourmove.gov and enter company USDOT number to do a check of the company's licensing.

Almost all storage facilities will have restrictions on what they will permit you to store on their properties. These limitations are to protect both the storage company and the customers. There are a number of items which most facilities will not allow you to store such as fireworks, hazardous materials, ammunition and firearms. When you call the storage company for the first time, make sure to go through the list of items they do not allow to store. Usually they will have a list published on their website.

Change your mailing address at the United States Postal Service website. You must notify the U.S. Postal Service that you are moving to ensure that your mail and any important documents are delivered to you. The USPS online change-of-address service is useful if you are moving or have moved recently.
